Since everyone is different, finding eyeglasses that look good on you can be challenging. Going with the most popular trend may not be the most flattering look. First, you need to determine your face shape. Then when you go to the optometrist, you will be able to choose the perfect pair of glasses. Below, are some simple tips depending on your face shape to get the best glasses for you.

Oval – This face shape means you have a large forehead. Also that the width and length of your face are almost the same. To balance out the angular shape of your face try oval or round shaped glasses. Avoid square shaped frames this will just make your face look more square and too harsh.

Heart Shaped – People with a heart shaped face have a larger forehead and the face gets smaller as you go towards your chin. To balance out the smallness of your chin pick a pair of glasses thicker on the bottom. If they also have ornamentation or color around the bottom part, it will draw attention downward. Small, round shaped frames will make your forehead appear less prominent.

Round – This is one of the most common face shapes. It means you have full cheeks and hardly any angles to your face. You can try hip geometric frames that create angles. Rectangular styles will make your face seem longer and less full. To make your face seem longer and less round look for lenses connecting at the top. This helps draw the focus up to your forehead.

Long/Oblong – If your face is longer than it is wide, this is your face shape. You will also probably have a tall forehead and longer nose. Your face shape looks best with tall shaped frames to make your face seem less long. A style that is larger that adds width to your face is also flattering. Avoid extremely small frames they will look out of proportion.

The general rule for the majority of the population is to have an eye examination every one to three years. Age, health issues, family history and other factors influence exam frequency including whether or not one currently wears contacts or corrective lenses.

A Child's First Eye Exam

The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends that healthy infants receive their preliminary exam at around six months of age, another check at age three and then another exam before beginning school. Several risk factors found in infancy may necessitate more frequent exams such as prematurity, maternal disease, family history of eye disease and other physical illnesses.

Routine Checks for Children

Growing youngsters should be evaluated by an Optometrist every two years until age 18. Vision changes often happen concurrently with growth and without regular monitoring, changes could go undetected and uncorrected for years. Children who wear corrective lenses or contact lenses should have yearly eye exams. A whopping 80 percent of classroom material is visual, making the importance of good healthy vision a necessity.

Adults

The AOA recommends that adults aged 18-60 receive eye exams every two years. The association asserts that seniors aged 61 and over receive an evaluation yearly. Risk factors influencing the frequency of exams in adults include but are not limited to the presence of diabetes, high blood pressure, holding a visually demanding job, previous eye injury or surgery, taking prescription or non-prescription drugs that may alter vision, and a family history of eye disease including glaucoma, macular degeneration and cataracts.

Different Types of Eye Doctors

Optometrists are eye doctors who are qualified to detect vision problems and subsequently prescribe vision correction. They also diagnose and treat eye diseases. Opthalmologists have more advanced training. In addition to diagnosing and treating decreased vision and eye diseases, they also perform eye surgery. The opthalmologist has attended medical school and received post-graduate training.

Routine eye examinations are an integral part of health maintenance. Various factors influence the frequency of receiving evalutations.

Computers are essential to the workplace, and because of this many people spend hours every day in front of a computer screen. In addition to this, people come home and spend additional time in front of their home computers. What many do not realize is that this can have serious consequences to their vision. This very real problem is known as CVS or computer vision syndrome. This affects many computer users and they don't even realize they have the problem. The symptoms usually include light sensitivity, blurred vision, headaches, and difficulty focusing when reading or during other eye strenuous activities.

While CVS has been causing problems for so many, there are real ways to help deal or avoid this syndrome. One way to prevent CVS is with computer ergonomics. Computer ergonomics is the science of creating a workplace to better fit a worker’s needs. This can be done by adjusting your chair so that you can keep your neck and back straight while on the computer. You should also position your computer screen so that you can better view the screen which will limit you from squinting, you should also position it so that it is at a distance comfortable enough to avoid straining to read what is on the screen. Another great way to reduce your chances of developing CVS is by wearing computer glasses. These glasses are designed differently than reading glasses in that they are specifically designed to give you the optimal lens power to view your computer screen.

There are also a number of minor things you can do to better strengthen your chances of not ruining your vision from CVS. One way is to exercise your eyes and you can do this by looking at a distant object every so often as this will actually help to relax the focusing muscles in your eyes. Other things you can do is take frequent breaks, adjust your computer display settings, upgrade to a better quality display, and blink more often. Taking the time to understand why computer vision syndrome is dangerous and how you can prevent it from affecting our vision is the first step in avoiding all the problems that it may bring.

Here’s eye-opening news: “Studies confirm that nearly half of all patients requiring vision correction have levels of astigmatism that could affect visual performance in at least one eye,” says W. Lee Ball, OD, FAAO, Associate Director of Medical Affairs atVistakon Division of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc.

Many people with astigmatism—a common vision problem that affects how the eye focuses light—experience fluctuating and/or blurred vision during such everyday activities as driving, reading, texting, working on the computer, exercising, playing sports or watching TV. A visit to your eye care professional will help you determine whether you have astigmatism.

“Research confirms that toric soft contact lenses such as 1-Day Acuvue Moist Brand Contact Lenses for Astigmatism provide significantly better visual acuity compared to spherical lenses for astigmatic patients, and provide comparable improvements in visual acuity to wearing glasses,” Dr. Ball adds.

Along with the health and convenience benefits of wearing a fresh contact lens every day, these lenses feature a proprietary Blink Stabilized Design, which harnesses the natural pressures of a blinking eye to help keep the lens in place and quickly realign the lens if it rotates out of position, for consistent, all-day vision.

Each lens is made using Lacreon Technology, a unique process that permanently embeds in the lens a water-holding ingredient, similar to that in natural tears. This technological advancement locks in moisture that lasts all day, addressing the most frequently reported complaints of contact lens discomfort, dryness and end-of-day comfort.

In addition, it blocks an average of 82 percent of UV-A radiation and 97 percent of UV-B radiation—though don’t forget protective accessories when going outside. Dr. Ball says contact lenses “should always be worn with high-quality UV-blocking sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat” for more complete UV protection. To find out how to receive a free trial pair of lenses, visitwww.acuvue.com. (Professional and fitting fees not included.)

There are a lot of benefits to getting contacts. Wait, what are contacts you ask. Contacts are a thin layer of what looks and feels similar to plastic that covers you eye and protects it as well as allows the eye to see better if there is anything wrong with your vision. They basically replace glasses if you don't like wearing glases. Contacts can be cheaper than glasses but are replaceable, you have to either continue cleaning them or get a pair that only last a few weeks or a few days. Some people use contacts to change the color of their eyes. There are contacts that are used just to change the color of peoples eyes or the ones that change the color of the eye as well as make it easier for you to see. There are so many different color of contacts, from natural colors to abstract colors that would never actually be an eye color. The world of eye vision has gone far, there are many different types of contacts which all affect different peoples visions in different ways. Just because some contacts change the color of your eyes does not mean that you can not see out of them or that the color is on the lens. Some do show just a hint of the color that they are showing to the wearer but they are still able to be seen out of. Red and black contacts are usually ones that do show the color a little bit. Althought some are completely see through. Some contacts can be picked up at a store while others are doctors visit only style of contacts. Color contacts tend to cost a lttle bit more but a lot of people think that they are worth the money. Colored contacts are easy to find online.
